Caterpillar has launched the Cat G3520 fast-response natural-gas generator set for mission-critical 50-Hz power applications, including hospitals, data centres and industrial facilities.

Now available from Cat dealers worldwide, the G3520 can help many facilities—including government buildings, schools, universities and retail complexes—reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to traditional backup power options. It provides 2.6 MW (3,250 kVA) for emergency standby and demand response.

Engineered to address International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 8528-5, Reciprocating internal combustion engine driven alternating current generating sets — Part 5: Generating sets, the generator set begins and accepts load from a cold start in 10 seconds and is capable of receiving and recovering from a 100% block load.

The G3520 features Cat’s electronic modular control panel (EMCP) 4 system to provide engine and generator set control, protection and monitoring. Ethernet communication capabilities allow the system to integrate into building management systems (BMSs). Expanded features include a gas train, package-mounted radiators and simplified wiring for ease of installation.

The generator set can also be configured with the Cat Energy Control System (ECS), a new suite of integrated, connected and scalable controllers, to manage energy needs ranging from a single generator set to a cohesive, full-site microgrid that optimizes multiple power generation sources.
