KSB KWPK Pumps: Optimized for Harsh Conditions

By Canadian Consulting Engineer

Mississauga, Ontario, September 2013. KSB’s heavy-duty KWPK series pumps are specially designed to handle slurries and aggressive fluids. These pumps feature highly wear- and corrosion-resistant hydraulic components and are ideal for mining operations, mineral processing or wastewater treatment. They are also very suitable for use in industrial processes such as pulp and paper manufacture or food and beverage processing where abrasive and/or highly corrosive materials are encountered.

The KWPK family is based on a modular design so that individual pumps can be customized to meet specific application requirements. Five standard material combinations are available, each with different characteristics with respect to corrosion resistance and wear resistance and cost. Seals and bearings have been designed to withstand the effects of corrosive or abrasive media, with several options available to meet the most demanding operational requirements. The modular design also features a back pull-out layout that simplifies on-site maintenance.

This series of pumps feature KSB’s K-type impeller, a non-clogging design that offers both durability and exceptional efficiency. KWPK pumps are available in a very wide range of sizes, with inlet diameters as small as 40 mm or as large as 900 mm. Maximum flow rate is 15,000 m3/hour, while the discharge head is up to 100 m. “These pumps provide an industry-leading combination of adaptability, reliability, durability and long-term cost effectiveness” says Mike Blundell, president of KSB Canada. “These qualities make them an excellent choice in demanding environments.”
