Private consortium begins work on William Osler Health Centre

Construction on a large new hospital in Brampton, Ontario is under way. It is one of the first major healthcare projects in Ontario to be built with substantial private sector involvement.

The Healthcare Infrastructure Company of Canada is not only financing, designing and constructing the William Osier Health Centre facility, but is also to be in charge of building operations for 25 years and will provide non-clinical services during that time.

Partners in the Healthcare Infrastructure Company are construction company EllisDon, plus Borealis Infrastructure Management and Carillion Canada.

Consultants include Marshall Macklin Monaghan, who will be doing the civil engineering component, as well as the structural engineering, along with Stephenson Engineering.
MMM are also designing the security and IT systems, as well as parking and traffic engineering.Mechanical engineers are the Mitchell Partnership with H.H. Angus. Electrical consultant is Carinci Burt Rogers. The architects are Parkin and Adamson in joint venture.

Located on Bovaird Drive in Brampton, a growing municipality northwest of Toronto, the hospital will be approximately 116,100 square metres (1,250,000 square feet), with four major building components: an in-patient facility, a diagnostic and treatment centre, a central utility plant and a parking garage. There will be 608 acute care beds and 18 operating rooms. It will also accommodate 160,000 ambulatory care visits and 4,250 births each year.
