Women are 9% of profession in Canada

The Canadian Council of Professional Engineers has published some results from its 2004 “mini-survey” on the engineering profession in Canada. The results show some interesting demographic trends. One is that women still are very much in the minority in the profession, making up less than 9% of the total licensees.<br>
Another finding is that engineers are more concentrated in numbers in Northern Canada than elsewhere. In the Northwest Territories there is one professional engineer for every 53 inhabitants, and in the Yukon there is one for every 80 inhabitants.<br>
Immigrating engineers are flocking to Ontario. Almost two-thirds of its professional engineer applications are from people educated abroad. In terms of the profession across Canada, international graduates represent 13.5 per cent of the total.<br>
