LRI is a Professional Engineering firm that specializes in fire protection engineering, building and fire code consulting, emergency planning and life safety services. We are the largest wholly Canadian-owned engineering firm that specializes exclusively in these services. The firm was established in 1986 with offices in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Calgary.
The diversified staff at LRI includes experts with backgrounds in fire protection and building code consulting, municipal plans examination and inspection, property management, construction/development, research and development and fire protection equipment design, manufacturing, and testing. LRI staff have extensive dealings with regulatory authorities and are active on many Codes and Standards committees and industry associations.
The size and complexity of LRI projects range from small residential buildings to universities and airports. Projects include community centres, government buildings, stadia, arenas, office complexes, shopping centers, hospitals, hotels, theatres, apartments and industrial buildings and transit stations. LRI has also aided in the evaluation and assessment of new fire protection equipment and materials.
LRI’s Code Engineering group provides Building and Fire Code consulting for new buildings, extensions, renovation, and changes of use with extensive experience in the application of Building and Fire Codes to all building occupancy types. They assist owners, property managers, developers, architects and engineers to apply the Codes in a consistent and appropriate manner to their buildings.
LRI’s Systems Engineering group provides design and contract administration services, audits and evaluations of fire protection systems including fire alarm, sprinkler, standpipe, and special suppression systems.
The wide range of experience within the group ensures a comprehensive array of design knowledge and aptitude for developing innovative, code-compliant solutions to both new construction and retrofit projects.
LRI’s Fire and Life Safety Services group provides emergency planning for occupant safety through assessing and documenting facility resources, developing emergency procedures and instructing building operators and occupants. The group has in-depth expertise in planning for emergencies, which is a vital component of the overall fire safety of any occupancy. Assessing and documenting your facility’s risks and resources, establishing emergency procedures and continual training all help to ensure occupant safety and mitigate business interruption.
