Ecoweek.ca reports that an environmental consultant from Belleville, Ontario was fined $84,000 for failing to provide correct information to the Ontario Ministry of Environment.
Quinte-Eco Consultants’ president was also barred from practising as an environmental consultant for two years.
The consultant from Prince Edward County in southern Ontario apparently told the Ministry of Environment on three separate occasions that samples from a site decommissioning had come back with no detection of PCBs.
When Ministry officials visited the testing laboratory, however, they discovered that three of the 19 sample results were positive for PCBs.
Following a trial, the consultant was found guilt yf violating section 184(2) of the provincial Environmental Protection Act.
