Chantal Guay named CEO of the Standards Council of Canada

Standards Council of Canada (SCC) has announced the appointment of Chantal Guay, P.Eng. as the crown corporation’s new Chief Executive Officer.

Previous to the appointment, Guay served as vice-president, standards and international relations at SCC, supporting the Canadian Standards Development Program and the International Standards Development Program.

She has also held the position of vice-president, accreditation services at SCC and, prior to joining SCC, was CEO of Engineers Canada.

Guay earned her Bachelor of Applied Science in Geological Engineering from Université Laval in 1987, and her Master’s in Environmental Management from the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Université de Sherbrooke, in 1999. She also earned an Advanced Executive Certificate in General Management from Queen’s School of Business in 2012.

Guay assumes the position of CEO of SCC effective April 16, 2018, and will serve for a term of four years.

She takes over the role from John Walter, who has served as SCC’s CEO since September 2009. Walter, a former vice-president at the Canadian Standards Association and assistant deputy minister in the Ontario government, is currently president of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
