Canada’s “largest and most technologically advanced gas-fired thermal power station” began operating and feeding power to the Ontario electricity grid in June.
The 880-MW Goreway Station sits on a 20-hectare site beside Highway 407 in Brampton, northwest of Toronto. The plant was engineered and constructed as a turnkey project by SNC-Lavalin. Sithe Global Power is the operator.
To reduce its environmental footprint, the plant incorporates high-efficiency gas turbines, selective catalytic reduction to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides, and an air-cooled condenser that reduces the water consumption by 95%.
