ACEC to conduct a business survey

ACEC will be conducting its third national opinion survey of the industry this January in an attempt to redefine the issues of concern. This important activity for ACEC is integral in identifying the industry’s strengths and weaknesses and in developing the action plan for the coming years. The survey, once again conducted by COMPAS, will cover matters such as economic trends, e-commerce, design-build and training. All information submitted in the survey is kept confidential and ACEC and others will only receive aggregates of the results. The richer the data pool, the better the results, so please encourage your firm to participate. The head office of your firm should receive the survey in early January and we hope to have preliminary results to share with members around March.

ACEC’S Contracts Committee issues paper on design-build

At its most recent meeting in Calgary, the ACEC Board of Directors endorsed an industry-drafted paper that describes the ideal process for delivering a project through design-build, including the roles and responsibilities of the various parties. The Board believes that the document can form the basis for a discussion with RAIC and CCA on principles intended ultimately to replace the much maligned Document 14. Members who wish to read and/or download the discussion paper can access it the on the ACEC Web site at www.acec.ca, in the Business Practices section.
