The pumps at Toronto’s R.C. Harris Filtration Plant, which draw 200 million gallons of water each day from Lake Ontario, were silenced last November 3 for a ceremony to mark the operation’s 60th anniversary. Engineer Ken Mains of CH2M Hill toasted the designers of the east-end plant, which has been designated a heritage site by the city and by the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering.
