Futura Coatings’ Styrothane is a two-component polyurethane coating for architectural elements and displays. The material is spray-applied directly over expanded polystyrene (EPS) and forms a hard, chemical moisture and fire retardant shell within seconds. It adds almost no extra weight to the substrate and requires no special engineered supports.

SMOKE CONTROL
Simplex fire alarm systems and Metasys building automation systems by Johnson Controls are now listed for integrated smoke control by Underwriters’ Laboratories. Building operators at a Metasys workstation can instantly review the status of the Simplex fire alarm system. If a fire occurs, the building automation system can automatically respond with HVAC control actions to help stop the spread of fire and smoke.

Tyco International acquired Simplex Time Recorder Co. in December. Simplex was a privately held company based in Westminster, Massachusetts. Tyco owns several other companies in the fire safety field, including ADT, Ansul and Grinnell.
