Notifier by Honeywell has introduced the IntelliQuad PLUS advanced smoke and carbon monoxide detector (right). One unit combines four sensing elements for smoke, CO, light/flame and heat to quickly verify a true emergency. Notifier also recently introduced the FAAST Fire Alarm Aspiration Detector for high-security and mission critical facilities. And the company has received International Building Code (IBC) seismic certification on all its alarm and notification systems.

Winner of the innovative Product of the Year award at the AHR Expo in Chicago in January was Melink Corporation’s Intelli-Hood Kitchen Ventilation Control. It can save 90% in fan energy.

The other top nine award-winning products in the 2012 AHR Expo awards were: ORB Heat Pump Controller by Geofinity (building automation); Copeland Scroll Variable Speed Compressor by Emerson (cooling); SHC onDEMAND Simultaneous Heating and Cooling Heat Pump System by ClimaCool (green building); Lubi Wall-Mounted Solar Air Heater by Enerconcept (heating); EE245 Wireless Transmitter by E+E Elektronik Ges (IAQ); Rheem XR90 Extreme Recovery Gas Water Heater (plumbing); Copeland Scroll K5 Refrigeration Compressor by Emerson (refrigeration); Emerson Climate Technologies HVACR Mobile Toolbox for Contractors (software); and the Fluke TiR1 Thermal Imager (tools and instruments).

The ArcForm LED portfolio from Philips Ledalite features advanced LED engineering as an alternative to traditional fluorescent lighting for commercial, retail and educational spaces. It has brilliant colour rendering and efficacies up to 91.2 lm/W. The luminaire’s design, combined with MesoOptics technology, makes for a 3D symmetrical batwing distribution of light that controls high angle glare. Philips now also has LED versions of its recessed products such as Voice and Vectra.

Silentium’s Quiet Bubble (QB) technology cancels ambient noise, creating “zones of quiet” round individuals in an office or other environment. The active noise control (ANC) technology produces an opposing signal (anti-noise) with the same amplitude but an opposite phase as the intrusive noise. It achieves up to 30 dB(A) of noise reduction, which the human ear registers as a 96% noise elimination. www.

GE has a new Grid iQ Network Communications Platform. The IP end-to-end industrial grade platform supports AMI, SCADA and other applications and is designed for rugged environments. It meets the need for a single network that can support multiple grid applications.

Hubbell has several courses this spring at its Lighting Solutions Centre in Greenville, South Carolina. One is Lighting for Healthcare Facilities held May 23.

Eaton Corporation’s S-Max Series 250 kW grid-tied solar inverter is manufactured in Milton, Ontario, complying with the Ontario Power Authority FIT requirements for domestic content. The S-Max Series is designed for large-scale rooftop solar installations. Its active front end (AFE) technology operates in harsh environments and has 24/7 operation cycles over decades. Includes embedded intelligence for automated commissioning, operation and shutdown.

The SunSource Commercial Energy System by Lennox is the first commercial HVAC system that integrates directly with solar power. It integrates with the Energence rooftop unit and can accommodate up to 21 solar panels. Microinverter technology individually controls the panels, and changes to the building’s electrical wiring are not generally required.
