Victaulic is celebrating its 80th anniversary. The company began producing mechanically joined pipe technologies during World War 1 as the Victory Pipe Joint Company. Twenty-five years later the company name was changed to Victaulic by combining the words “victory” and “hydraulic.” Products launched this year include the Advanced Groove System and the FireLock EZ rigid coupling.

Blazemaster CPVC fire sprinklers by Noveon are a cost-effective alternative to metal sprinkler piping systems. They are resistant to corrosion and have low flame spread and low smoke characteristics.


SimplexGrinnell has moved its Central Station Monitoring Center into a new facility in Westminster, Massachusetts. The new centre is UL-listed and FM-approved and serves over 43,000 customers.


Wiremold/Legrand’s “FlameStopper” is a device for through-wall penetrations that allows wires and cables to be added or removed easily while maintaining the fire rating of the wall. Consisting of a cover with adjustable steel doors, the fittings have built-in intumescent firestopping material.

Hilti’s new FS 411 Firestop System Selector is for identifying appropriate fire stop systems using a Palm Personal Digital Assistant.

Tremco Fire Protection Systems Group has a new electronic guide of 425 independently tested and listed firestopping systems.


The new PowerCommand diesel generator sets from Cummins Power Generation range from 35 kW to 2.7 MW. Standby systems are available.

Generac Power Systems has a new series of automatic standby generators for commercial uses. The QT models produce minimal noise even under full loads and during weekly self-test and exercise cycles. With an output range of 15-150 kilowatts, the generators run on natural gas.


Fire-Lite Alarms has introduced the ACC-25/50DA audio panel that gives over 1500 watts of digital audio power. The ACC-25/50ZS zone splitter panel provides up to 24 separate audio circuits.

Notifier’s ONYXWorks is a new a PC-based graphical workstation for integrating fire alarm, security, card access, CCTV etc. Also new is the Onyx ExitPoint audible exit technology that produces directional sound for guiding occupants out of buildings.


Watt Stopper/Legrand has a new family of low-voltage occupancy sensors with 360 degree coverage and a low profile design. The UT-300 uses ultrasonic sensing, while the CI-300 uses passive infrared (PIR) sensing. The DT-300 Dual Tech Sensor uses both technologies.


Prescolite’s Firetight fire-resistant recessed downlighting units provide continuous ceiling barriers. The patented, UL-classified units are for the most common one and two-hour fire rated ceiling assemblies.


V-Kool security window film can be applied to windows to reduce injury from broken glass caused from earthquakes, explosions, etc. The film also blocks heat, transmits light and saves energy.


Bosch Security Systems has a new line of IP digital encoders and decoders for high-quality real-time video and audio. The VideoJet and VIP systems have wireless capabilities, streaming digital video recorders and local storage.

Super Dynamic III Series surveillance cameras have been launched by Panasonic Canada. Features include 128x Dynamic Range technology to optimize high contrast images and a proprietary DSP chip that processes tasks and provides auto image stabilizer, scene change detection and autotracking.

A commercial, concealed real-time weapons detection camera is being marketed by Brijot Imaging Systems. It uses passive millimeter wave sensor technology to detect guns, knives or bombs, whether they are metal, plastic or composite.


TOA Canada has a new N-8000 Series IP Network Intercom system. It serves up to 1,280 stations on local and wide area data networks.
