For the second year in a row, Engineering News Record has reported that Canada ranks third in the world when it comes to the export of engineering services, behind the U.S. and Britain. Canada’s export design volume was up 8% while the U.S. fell by nearly the same margin (8.3%). Europe and the Middle East were strong performers, with gains of 28.4% and 20.1% respectively. Asia was also up, with a 9.7% gain over last year, and Latin America was down 16.5%. Africa was the biggest gainer overall with a 65% increase in export design volume, but remained in last place.

The top sectors were manufacturing, up 40.3%, petroleum, up 26.6%, and hazardous waste, which was up 17.8%. Telecommunications fell 53.2%.
