Top: Firm founder, H. G. Acres, made his name by being in charge of surveys, design and construction of the Queenston-Chippawa Power Development at Niagara Falls, which opened in 1921. Built with a capacity of up to 65,000 hp, the plant was renamed the Sir Adam Beck Generating Station No. 1 in the 1950s.Right: Another important early project by Acres was the Shipshaw Power Development on the Saguenay River, Arvida, Quebec. When the plant was built in the 1940s it was the largest hydroelectric installation in the world under one roof (1,200,000 hp).
