Predicting Wind Loads in Vented Cladding Systems presentation

September 20, 2016

Do pressure equalization effects reduce effective wind loads on cladding? Some building codes and standards suggest that the answer is “yes”. This presentation will reconsider the evidence.
Randy Van Straaten of RDH Building Science Laboratories will introduce key wind engineering concepts, review wind load reduction allowances for pressure equalization in various codes and standards, and share recent research on predicting pressure equalization effects in vented cladding systems. The research is focused on vinyl siding but the presentation is generally applicable to all vented claddings, screens, and solar panels.
