The Importance of Getting a Variety of Work Experience

As careers develop and progress over time, it is important to seek new and different work experiences and challenges – there is no better way to develop one’s potential and it provides the opportunity to do great work. These experiences can come in many forms, but one of the most satisfying and varied comes from working abroad on different projects, in different roles and immersed in alternative cultures. The broad assumption that things are done in the same way around the world is almost always wrong and exposure to these different perspectives on engineering and construction forces us to think and therefore makes us better engineers and scientific explorers.

This discussion will explore a senior leader’s experiences and perspectives on gaining valuable work experience in different places and different cultures, developing your career and hopefully having a few laughs along the way.
