ACEC-BC: From an Owner’s Perspective: the Role of an Engineer in a Successful Project
May 31, 2017
Engineers play an integral role in any project, from understanding different procurement methods to working with Owners in Design tradeoffs, through the management of cost/schedule/quality, determining substantial completion, dealing with dispute resolutions, deficiencies, record drawings and warranties to final completion of a project. In addition, there are high-level issues such as implications of Owner’s risk assessment, the overall business case and dealing with community politics.
In order to provide quality client service it is essential engineers understand the roles and responsibilities of all parties involved in a construction project. While using an example of a specific discipline, high-level discussions of these topics, together with small group interaction, will benefit engineers in their interactions with Clients and others on the project team.
