The Stage 1 deadline for the 2012 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards has been announced, and Notice of Intention to Enter Forms are now available.

This year the number of awards of excellence has been increased to 12 — see below!

Now in their 44th year, the awards are the most prestigious honours recognizing consulting engineering in Canada.  They are a joint program of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine. Winning projects are selected based on high quality engineering, imagination and innovation.

The Stage I deadline is Tuesday, March 27.  A Notice of Intention to Enter plus $300.00 entry fee is required at this stage.   To download the form and for more information, click here.

The Stage 2 deadline is Tuesday, May 8.

Schreyer Award

The highest honour each year is the Schreyer Award. It is presented to the project the best demonstrates technical excellence and innovation by a consulting engineering firm. Past winners include such national icons as the Confederation Bridge in P.E.I., the Canada Line in Vancouver, the retractable roof over the Skydome, and the CN Tower in Toronto.

Tree for Life Award

This award was inaugurated in 2008 and is given annually to a project that demonstrates outstanding environmental stewardship. Past winners include the Pine Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Calgary and Enermodal’s office in Kitchener, “A Grander View.” This award is chosen from projects entered in all categories.

Awards of Excellence (increased this year!)

Up to 12 Awards of Excellence will be given at the judges’ discretion. These are selected from all categories.

NOTE: These national awards are held independently of the provincial awards programs for consulting engineers and have different judging criteria.

Why You Should Enter

CCE Awards Gala – Industry’s Premier Networking Event

Presentation of the awards are made at the CCE Awards Gala dinner in Ottawa on November 1st, 2012. The CCE Awards Gala is a premier networking opportunity for ACEC members and a showcase for the accomplishments of the industry. Firms must be a member of ACEC to be eligible.

Raise the Industry Profile and Participate in ACEC’s Parliament Hill Day

Representatives of the winning firms are invited to participate in ACEC’s Parliament Hill Day, where they will be part of an exclusive group of ACEC members who will meet face-to-face with high-ranking parliamentarians on key issues for the industry.

National Recognition for your Firm

The list of winners is publicized nationwide and the projects are published in a special issue of Canadian Consulting Engineer. In addition, ACEC and CCE will jointly issue a Press Release to media in your local area. Firms are also encouraged to invite their federal Member of Parliament to Awards presentation.

All entering firms are invited to submit display boards to be displayed at the awards gala.

Judging of the submissions will take place in mid-June and you will be notified soon afterwards whether or not your firm has won an award.

The judging panel consists of eminent Canadian engineers and other knowledgeable experts who are not directly employed in the consulting engineering business sector.
