A professor at York University in Toronto has invented an internet-based tool using remote sensing tool that allows users to zoom into or fly past any place on the planet and access geographical data, images and sensor data.
The technology, called SAME, has the potential for real-time monitoring, surveillance and mapping of infrastructure sites and regions around the world.
Dr. Vincent Tao, the Canada Research Chair and associate professor of geomatics at York University who invented the technology, directs the York Geospatial Information and Communication Technology Research Lab at York. He demonstrated the technology in a special presentation organized by the Parnership Group for Science and Engineering at the Houses of Parliament in Ottawa on November 25.
