Data centres are becoming a heavy draw on energy, amounting to 2 per cent of the total energy used in the U.S.
The American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) is holding a series of workshops throughout New York State to try and reduce energy reduction in this sector by 75% per cent.
Roger Schmidt, chair of ASHRAE’s technical committee on mission critical facilities, technology spaces and electronic equipment said in a press release, “Estimates show that the total energy usage by data centers approach 2 per cent of the United States Electricity usage, which is equivalent to about eight 1000 MW power plants.”
