The American Concrete Institute has released five new publications this spring. They are: Code Requirements for Residential Concrete and Commentary, Guide for Modeling and Calculating Shrinkage and Creep in Hardened Concrete, Guide for the Design and Construction of Concrete Parking Lots, Guide to Durable Concrete, and Guide to Shear Reinforcement for Slabs. The Joint Committee on Structural Safety (JCSS) of the Institute of Structural Engineering (IBK) based in Zurich, Switzerland has published “Risk Assessment in Engineering – Principles, System Representation & Risk Criteria.” The document has recommendations on what can be considered as
best practice.
According to the committee’s press release: “The approach is largely philosophical and methodical and does not depend on the latest development in e.g. numerical methods and specific techniques for specific technical investigations.” Can be downloaded from www.jcss.ethz.ch/publications/JCSS_RiskAssessment.pdf
