SNC-Lavalin Nuclear of Montreal and Murray & Roberts of South Africa have been awarded a contract to provide engineering, procurement, project and construction management services for a nuclear power plant at Koeberg near Cape Town in South Africa. The approximately value of the contract is Cdn. $253 million.
The Phase II Pebble Bed Modular Reactor demonstration plant will use advanced Generation IV technology, supplying about 165 MW to South Africa’s electrical grid when completed in 2014.
SNC-Lavalin and Murray and Roberts also worked together on Phase 1, which was completed in June 2008.
