Smith + Andersen announces eight personnel appointments

Three new associate principals, four new senior associates, and one new associate announced at the national consulting engineering firm.

Smith + Andersen has announced the appointment of three new associate principals in Toronto, four new senior associates (two in Toronto, two in Vancouver), and one new associate in Toronto.

Vlad Germanovsky

Vlad Germanovsky, LEED AP, (Mechanical/Toronto): Over his 13 years in the industry Germanovsky has established a reputation for exceeding client expectations. Collaborating on everything from tenant fit-ups to new developments, he has provided multi-disciplinary design solutions for unique retail, office, residential, and mission critical spaces. His leadership within the tenant group has helped guide some of the most complex projects in the country.

Elaine Guenette

Elaine Guenette, B.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED AP (Mechanical/Toronto): Since joining Smith + Andersen immediately after graduation from the University of Waterloo, Guenette has demonstrated invaluable expertise on numerous teams – earning the trust and respect of clients across Canada. Her portfolio of work includes award-winning projects such as the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus Environmental Science and Chemistry Building and Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park.

Chris McPherson

Chris McPherson, B.E.Sc., P.Eng., LEED Green Associate (Electrical/Toronto): A leader on Toronto’s electrical team,McPherson thrives in today’s collaborative, technology-driven design processes. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario, he joined Smith + Andersen 13 years ago and has grown as a respected team leader. Chris’ expertise has been critical on numerous public sector projects, primarily in the post-secondary and healthcare market sectors. Most notably, Chris was the electrical project manager for the award-winning Humber River Hospital development. Following this massive healthcare project, Chris helped create and implement numerous internal processes and methods to support consistency, accuracy, and overall quality on large P3 projects.

Brent Frayne

Brent Frayne, B.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED Green Associate, HFDP (Mechanical/Vancouver): Frayne started with the firm more than 12 years ago and has grown as a leader in the company and has also been instrumental to the successful delivery of multi-million dollar projects. His technical proficiency and open communication style has added tremendous value to P3 teams across the country, providing mechanical expertise on developments such as Humber River Hospital and the Calgary Cancer Centre. He has also led teams in the post-secondary, civic, hospitality, and residential market sectors.

Marc Hubert

Marc Hubert, B.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED Green Associate (Electrical/Toronto): Hubert is one of the most sought after project leaders in the GTA. In addition to leading the firm’s efforts within the transportation sector, he is also highly adept at balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders when applying his skills to healthcare, post-secondary, and commercial office building design. Hubert is highly experienced with a wide range of project delivery methods, including design build P3s on both the owner and Project Co. sides. His experience includes multiple multi-billion dollar P3s.

Bertha Lai, B.Eng., M.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED AP BD+C (Mechanical/Toronto): In thirteen years, Lai has established herself as an unparalleled mechanical designer and a trusted project leader. A member of the firm’s national healthcare team, her experience with healthcare and laboratory design is second-to-none, with project management skills that are beyond reproach. Bertha is an active member of the CaGBC, the Professional Engineers of Ontario, and ASHRAE, is committed to innovation and mentorship within the industry.

Chris Liu

Chris Liu, B.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED AP (Mechanical/Vancouver): Over the past decade working with Smith + Andersen, Lui has applied his mechanical expertise to the benefit of clients in numerous market sectors, including community centres and healthcare facilities. He has played a role on projects across the country, and is currently a leader for the firm’s mechanical design team in Vancouver on projects such as Valleyview Mental Health Centre in Coquitlam, the 402 Dunsmuir office building, and the DBFM Abbotsford Law Courts development.

Peter Kastelic

Peter Kastelic, B.A.Sc., P.Eng., LEED Green Associate (Mechanical/Toronto): Since graduating from the University of Waterloo in 2010, Kastelic has demonstrated mechanical expertise large projects. A member of the firm’s national healthcare team, he has led the team on DBFM pursuits and projects, such as Milton District Hospital and the CAMH Phase 1C Queen West Redevelopment in Toronto.
