We often hear about the big corporate engineering companies sponsoring programs and helping aid organizations, but smaller firms are also dedicated to helping out the less fortunate.

Avalon Consulting Professionals of Ontario based in Fort Erie, for example, contributed “in-kind” professional planning and engineering services to a Habitat for Humanity Home in Port Colborne last year.

In Alberta, Vista Projects Limited, a multi-disciplinary firm, is taking a more unusual approach. Staff drop of their empty bottles and cans in bins at the company’s loading dock. Gavin Hulbert, an employee, takes the bottles to the return depot and uses the money to support a talented violinist, 14-year old Talisa Symons, who is studying violin in Cape Town, South Africa.
