In mid-June, Infrastructure Ontario, the development arm of the Ontario Government, issued a request for qualifications for teams to design, build, finance and maintain a new regional courthouse in Waterloo. The Waterloo Region Consolidated Courthouse will consolidate the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice in one location.
Another project for which a request for qualifications was issued in June is the new Toronto South Detention Centre at the Mimico Correctional Centre. It will house 1,650 male offenders, including general, infirmary and segregation beds.
The Ontario government has 41 projects currently under construction, in design, or in the pre-qualification stages. Most are in the healthcare sector. The exceptions are two courthouses (the Waterloo courthouse and one under construction in Durham region), the detention centre in Mimico, a new data centre in Guelph, and a nuclear power procurement project.
