A new threat from invasive species is feared after a Chinese mitten crab was found in the Gulf of St. Lawrence near Quebec City. The crab needs both freshwater and salt water to complete its lifecycle, and while it has been seen in the Great Lakes before, it has never established itself there. The crab reproduces rapidly and can travel hundreds of kilometres in its two-five year lifespan.
