CBC Edmonton reported last week that Alberta Premier Ralph Klein wants to review all government contracts over $100,000.
Klein was acting on the recommendations of the provincial auditor general and a scandal related to the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Contracts worth $40,000 have been given to the Health Minister’s former executive assistant with no supporting documents.
Since then, all ministers and department heads have been ordered to review existing contracts to determine whether proper documentation exists and to ensure that they were put to tender. The CBC report said any contracts that didn’t meet those stands would be suspended.
