The Town of Banff decided last week that consulting engineering firm Earth Tech Canada will design, build and operate the facilities to upgrade its waste water treatment plant.
The upgrade is to add tertiary treatment and biological nutrient removal processes to the plant, helping it meet the enhanced environmental standards set out in the 1997 Banff Management Plan. Construction is expected to start around June 1. In March the Honourable Sheila Coppps, Minister of Canadian Heritage announced that Parks Canada would make a $1 million contribution to the project. Around the same time Copps also announced that Parks Canada will contribute $1.4 million to a new Emergency Services Building in Jasper, another tourist centre in the Canadian Rockies. The emergency centre will replace a fire hall constructed in 1936 which has been designated a heritage building. The new facility will be in Robson Park, a location chosen after consultation with the community.
