Terry Hardy, P.Eng. was elected as Chair of Consulting Engineers of Ontario at its annual meeting in May. Mr. Hardy is president and chief executive officer of the Ainley Group, which has its headquarters in Collingwood, Ontario.
Consulting Engineers of Ontario is a non-profit organization representing 260 engineering firms across Ontario.
Mr. Hardy has indicated he will concentrate on promoting the role of consulting engineers as providing professional services rather than providing simple commodities.
“… The past decade has seen price competition constrain, if not erode, the excellence in engineering and innovation for which Ontario’s consulting engineers are justifiably renown,” he said after his election. “Engineering excellence and innovation is an investment in quality, reliability and safety — so it is not in the public’s best interest to select engieering services on the basis of low bid prices.”
At the same meeting, CEO amended its bylaws to embrace geoscientist companies. It now allows firms offering geoscientific services that have the necessary Certificate of Authorization under the Professional Geoscientists Act to become associate members of the organization.
