Mr. Jack O’Brien, an engineer who spent 40 years with Associated Engineering of Edmonton, died on Saturday, December 24, 2005. He was chairman of the company when he retired in 1988. Besides his distinguished career overseeing water supply and waste treatment projects in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, and the Yukon, Mr. O’Brien was Consulting Engineers of Alberta’s first president and helped found the association in 1978. He Marshall Macklin Monaghan of Toronto has appointed Cam Hind, P.Eng. as a partner of the firm. He joined Rybka, a firm that is now part of MMM, in 1999 and is responsible for building mechanical engineering. Steve Willis, who joined MMM in 1999, vice president, planning and environmental services, is also now a partner.
UMA Engineering has announced appointments in the Calgary Region Transportation Sector. Joseph Ko, P.Eng. is now manager of urban roads, Marty Shenfield, RPT (Eng.) is manager of airports, Sheri Harmsworth, P.Eng. is manager of transportation planning, and Jim Zagas, RET is manager of highways.
AMEC’s Earth & Environmental mining group in Mississauga, Ontario has hired two new experts. Steve Sibbick is experienced in mine waste management, discharge water and remediation strategies and has authored 40 publications. Xiaogang Hu is a specialist in geotechnical, hydrological and mining engineering, particularly in cold regions.
