Genivar of Montreal has acquired Solmers Inc., a Quebec-based firm specializing in environmental engineering services. Solmers’ work includes waste confinement technology for the municipal and industrial sectors. Solmers was founded in 1986 and has 40 employees in Varennes, Quebec. They design landfill cells for domestic, industrial and hazardous waste, as well as for potable water basins, lagoons and surface impoundment.

Consultants ECD Energy of Toronto has been acquired by global real estate giants Jones Lang LaSalle. ECD is best known as the developer of the Green Globes building rating system used in the Go Green program administered by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) in Canada. Jiri Skopek, chief executive officer of ECD, will join Jones LaSalle in their Toronto offices. The Green Globes standard is to be kept independent from Jones Lang LaSalle.

SNC-Lavalin of Montreal has announced that its subsidiary Groupe Qualitas has acquired Laboratoire Sol et Beton (LSB), a firm specialized in material and geotechnical engineering based in Quebec City. LSB has 50 employees who will join SNC-Lavalin’s Materials and Geotechnical Engineering Division which employs about 500 people.
