The Ontario government announced March 27 it will work with the City of Ottawa to explore building a ring road around the city. They will conduct a joint needs-assessment survey to determine the feasibility of creating a new corridor joining Regional Road 174 to Highway 417 in the city’s east road, allowing traffic to by-pass urban Ottawa. The provincial government has invested more than $500 million in transportation improvements in the Ottawa area since 1995, including $323 million on the 80-kilometer Veterans Memorial Highway opened in 1999.
