The Devonian Gardens on the fourth floor of the TD Square complex in Calgary are among the world’s largest indoor gardens. It is also one of the most unusual, given its location on the upper floor of an otherwise typical office tower complex. For 25 years the gardens have been providing a warm and lush oasis in the middle of the city’s downtown core where shoppers, tourists and anyone else can drop in and enjoy the pastoral setting. The garden covers two and a half acres and has 20,000 plants, streams and waterfalls, and resident fish and turtles.
The city has decided to renovate the 1977 facility and wants to reinvigorate it as a major public attraction. Keen Engineering are mechanical engineers for the project, with Janet Rosenberg Landscape Architect and Eleven Eleven Architects.
