A large movie theatre in one of the busiest parts of mid-town Toronto collapsed this morning, with people still trapped inside the building.
The Uptown on Yonge Street just south of Bloor was being demolished, when part of a rear wall fell onto a private school behind it.
One person was dead on the scene, several injured were taken to hospital and sniffer dogs were searching the site.
The building was damaged by fire in the 1960s. More recently Famous Players had been ordered to make it wheelchair accessible, but the company instead had decided to close the cinema and sell the building to a developer.
