Installation has started on replacing over 36,000 street lights in British Columbia with more environmentally friendly lamps.
The new lamps are innovative high pressure sodium lamps which last 30,000 hours — 25% longer than an ordinary HPS lamp. Made by Osram Sylvania, the Lumalux Plus/Eco lamps have lead free glass, and a base which contains 90% less mercury than the norm.
The lamps are being installed by BC Hydro through EECOL Electric out of Surrey, B.C.
