Alberta is proposing to spend $916 million on water supply measures over the next 10 years.
The plans were part of a strategy document, "Water for Life: Alberta’s Strategy for Sustainability," released by the province’s Environment Minister, Lorne Taylor.
The province is going to establish a provincial advisory council on water, as well as a series of local watershed management groups.
Water conservation will be part of the program, but there will also be $491 million earmarked for capital investment, mostly to upgrade infrastructure.
