The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of BC (ACEC-BC) has published a guideline for helping engineering firms who engage with Aboriginal communities on their projects.

The association noted that resource projects often require consulting engineers to engage with Aboriginal communities, and often clients request that the firms outline their approaches in this regard.

Keith Sashaw, president and chief executive officer of ACEC-BC, said: “It is essential that consulting engineers are properly prepared to work with Aboriginal communities. Experience has shown that cooperative engagement with Aboriginal groups early in the planning and design phases of a proposed project can benefit all concerned.”

He added: “We are pleased to have brought together in one document a listing of some of the best work done in this field.”
