Despite the widespread economic recession, the wind power capacity around the world grew more than 31%, the highest rate in eight years. The global capacity increased by 38,343 MW in 2009 to bring it to a total of 158,505 MW globally. Worldwide, this amounts to 2 per cent of the global electricity consumption in 2009, and totals 340 trillion kilowatt-hours.
