DESSAU, based in Laval, Quebec, fifth largest engineering company in Canada, has acquired Progest Experts-Conseils Inc., an engineering firm based in Gaspe. Progest specializes in project management and construction management.

MTE Consultants of southwestern Ontario (Kitchener, Burlington and Guelph) has been named to the 2009 ZweigWhite Hot Firm List. The citation recognizes the company’s growth from 2005 to 2008 when it increased its revenues by 108%. The company has 175 employees providing civil, municipal, structural and environmental engineering.

Teknika HBA was named Best Employer in the Large Business category (500 or more employees) from Defi Meilleurs Employeurs of Quebec. Wilfrid Morin, chief executive officer of the company, received the award on behalf of the company. It is the second year in a row that Teknika has been presented with the award. The company based in Sherbrooke, Quebec has grown from a staff of 700 to over 1,000 in Quebec. It also joined Trow Global in 2008.

Stantec has won an Award of Merit in the Ottawa Urban Design Awards for the Sandy Hill Flood Control and Park Rehabilitation Project. Other companies on the Sandy Hill team include Civitas Architecture, IBI Group, Golder Associates, Doran Contractors and City of Ottawa.

Rita Wong of Halcrow Yolles in Toronto won 2nd place in a photo contest sponsored by the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE). The prize winning photograph of the Galleria in Brookfield Place, downtown Toronto, selected from 1,400 submissions.

AECOM has won an indefinite contract to support the U.S. Africa Peacekeeping Program (AFRICAP). The program is to provide military training, advice, equipment procurement and construction services for the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of African Affairs.

AECOM is one of four companies to win the five year contract, which is worth US $375 million per company.
