Ramboll Group growing in the Americas
European firm acquires U.S.-based OBG and establishes a new Americas business unit covering the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Brazil for services in water, energy, environment and health.
Danish-based engineering firm the Ramboll Group is a leader in northern Europe and globally with some 15,000 employees across 300 offices in 35 countries, and just before the New Year the company has announced that it is expanding its presence in the Americas with the acquisition of U.S.-based engineering and design consultancy OBG.
“We are very excited to be welcoming OBG’s 900 experts to Ramboll,” said Jens-Peter Saul, Ramboll Group CEO, in a company statement. “Growing in North America has been a strategic priority for us since we established our U.S. presence in 2014 with the successful acquisition of ENVIRON.” The new acquisition doubles the company’s size in the U.S. to 2,000, and during the last year Ramboll has grown organically by 9.5% in the U.S., which is now one of the company’s fastest growing and most profitable regions. At the time of the acquisition, the combined revenue of Ramboll and OBG amounts to US$2 billion.
“Together with OBG we can build on the platform we have developed in the U.S. By combining our analytical and consulting-oriented business in the U.S. with the strong project execution capabilities of OBG, we will be able to deliver full-scale, integrated solutions to our clients – from front-end consulting work to back-end execution,” added Saul.
Founded in 1945, OBG delivers integrated engineering solutions within water, energy, environment and advanced manufacturing. The company has relationships in both the private and public sectors, and a strong position in eastern U.S.
And effective January 1, 2019 the Ramboll Group announced that it is establishing a new principal business unit for the Americas covering the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Brazil for services in water, energy, environment and health.
The new Americas business unit will be led by OBG CEO Jim Fox. The ambition is for the unit to grow from the current 2,000 employees to 3-4,000 employees in four to five years.
