JLR announces new Associates for 2018

Five new associates at the Ottawa-based firm include mechanical and civil engineers along with an architect.

J.L. Richards & Associates Ltd. (JLR) has announced the appointment of five new associates to open 2018.

Bogdan Burzawa

Bogdan Burzawa, P.Eng., LEED AP joined JLR as a mechanical engineering intern in 2007. A graduate of the University of Ottawa (B.A.Sc. Mechanical Engineering Management), he has extensive experience in business development, project management, financial and technical proposal development, contract document preparation, and construction administration. Burzawa is currently a senior mechanical engineer based in JLR’s Ottawa office.

Jason Chahal

Jason Chahal, P.Eng., LEED AP joined JLR in 2007. Currently a senior mechanical engineer in JLR’s Ottawa office, Chahal has experience as a mechanical lead and project manager on international, national, and local projects ranging from multi-purpose office spaces to laboratories, nuclear, educational facilities, and municipal water and wastewater treatment plants. A graduate of Carleton University (B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering), he has specialized design and commissioning experience in international/remote locations, explosion venting, high pressure steam, fuel oil systems, and healthcare facilities.

Karla Ferrey

Karla Ferrey, P.Eng. is a senior civil engineer involved in both design and contract administration for residential, commercial, and industrial developments. After graduating from Carleton University in 2007 (B.Eng., Civil Engineering), Ferrey joined JLR’s Ottawa office as a civil engineering intern. Today, she is responsible for the detailed design of storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and watermains, as well as preparation of grading and drainage plans, applications for review agencies, composite utility circulations, progress payment certificates, and opinions of probable cost.

Sébastien Racine

Sébastien Racine, OAA, OAQ joined JLR in 2012 as a senior architect. A graduate of Laval University (Bachelor of Architecture), he has extensive experience in the educational, institutional, municipal, commercial, and industrial sectors. Based out of JLR’s Ottawa office, Racine is responsible for client liaison, design, construction documentation, and administration, from concept to occupancy. Among his most recent projects are the new O-Train Trillium Line Transit Stations in Ottawa and the Montfort Renaissance, offering 48 units of supportive housing.

Brent Robitaille

Brent Robitaille, P.Eng., PMP is a senior mechanical engineer and project management professional whose primary responsibilities include mechanical engineering design, directing and managing project work, supervision of design execution, technical report writing, and quality assurance/quality control reviews for both commercial and industrial/mining clients. Robitaille graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 2009 (B.E.Sc. Mechanical Engineering) and joined JLR’s Sudbury office as a mechanical engineering intern in 2011. Since then, he has become a key resource in the development and expansion of the firm’s industrial and mining group.

Together, JLR’s new Associates are affiliated with numerous organizations including Professional Engineers Ontario, the Ontario Association of Architects, Ordre des architectes du Québec, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia, the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta, the Project Management Institute, the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society, the Canada Green Building Council, and more.
