JLR adds sustainable energy services

J. L. Richards and Associates Ltd. (JLR) has added energy services and energy systems engineering to its portfolio of services with the announcement of its new Innovative Energy Group, a team of five members who have joined the firm from Leidos Canada.

Comprised of four engineers and one technologist, the team members are experts in solar energy, solar water systems, and energy systems modelling. Larry McClung, Joan Haysom, Jarrett Carriere, Jill Tymchak, and Nathan Gauci diversify JLR’s services and offer clients new avenues to customize their energy systems solutions.

“Smart and renewable energy systems have matured, and can now be economically integrated into a wide range of building and infrastructure projects,” explains Haysom. ”We are very excited to join the JLR team and to bring solid and sustainable energy solutions into architecture, planning, and engineering services, and to a diverse set of clients.”

The Ottawa-based team brings experience in commercial project development, research and development, manufacturing, pilot program execution, investor portfolio creation, and consulting, each member of the Innovative Energy Group is capable of engaging with energy systems of all sizes.

Furthermore, the team is well practiced in not only effectively modelling energy systems, but also in evaluating the performance of those systems once they are implemented, and they bring a detailed understanding of the feasibility of many developing energy technologies in practical applications, such as combined heat and power, biomass and biogas, district heating and cooling systems, air source and ground source heat pumps, energy efficient lighting, and small hydro projects.

The group has worked as technical advisors to solar energy investors, and they have been involved in almost half of the 2.4 gigawatt (GW) photovoltaic projects in Ontario, from the largest utility-scale projects to hundreds of residential systems, as well many GW’s of projects outside of Canada.

Since joining JLR, the team has been involved with a number of new projects, including utility-scale solar development in Quebec, energy planning for a net-zero energy community housing project, solar deployment strategy for a national real estate portfolio holder, and business case evaluation of solar and storage for large electricity users.
