ISL Engineering principals win Lieutenant Governor awards in Alberta

Three individuals were recognized in this year’s Consulting Engineers of Alberta annual awards.
Gary Mack, P.Eng., and Roman Wozniak, P.Eng., were awarded CEA’s Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Distinguished Service. Together, they led ISL Engineering and Land Services of Edmonton which has grown to have more than 300 employees in western Canada, mainly working in transportation, land and water projects.
Roman Wozniak grew up on a farm near Wanham, Alberta and was inspired by watching a highways department engineer at work to become an engineer. Similarly, Gary Mack grew up in rural Alberta in Bonnyville. He joined ISL in 1986 and became president when Roman was diagnosed with MS and had to retire.
Matt Brassard, P.Eng, President of CEA, said at the awards gala: “These two remarkable individuals have made a long-lasting contribution to engineering excellence in Alberta with their dedication and commitment to innovation and quality engineering. They are an inspiration to all of us.”
The other individual who was honoured was Jennifer Enns, P.Eng., who received the CEA President’s Award. The award is presented annually to honour an individual who is outside the consulting engineering profession but who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession. Ms. Enns is manager of corporate engineering and energy services in the City of Calgary and has been a strong proponent of Qualifications Based Selection (QBS) of consultants.
“By using QBS, the City of Calgary has set an example for procurement of consulting engineering services for all public bodies in Alberta,” said Matt Brassard.
Ms. Enns also serves on the Practice Review Board of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and the Practice Review Board of the Alberta Association of Architects. She is also APEGA’S representative on the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering Faculty Council.
