Ian MacDonald to receive ACEC-NB President’s Award

Ian MacDonald, P.Eng., a leading expert in fire safety engineering and president of RJ Bartlett Engineering Ltd., will be receiving the ACEC-NB 2017 President’s Award at the chapter’s Awards for Engineering Excellence event being held Thursday, February 16th at the Fredericton Convention Centre.

 A past-president of ACEC-NB and an ACEC-Canada representative and director, MacDonald is a sought-after fire safety expert by industry and colleagues across Canada, the U.S. and internationally for his knowledge in this engineering specialty. He is also recognized by ACEC as a champion for young professionals in the industry.

He joined the Board of Consulting Engineers New Brunswick in the 1990’s eventually becoming president in 1998. After serving as past-President on the Board, Ian served on the ACEC National Board as the New Brunswick representative from 2003 to 2007. Ian continues to serve on ACEC committees and often acts as an advisor upon request.

Graduating with a BSc in electrical engineering in 1985 from Queen’s University, MacDonald immediately entered the consulting engineering industry in Toronto in the fire protection engineering field. After working in Ottawa for two years he relocated to Fredericton, NB in 1995 to take a position with RJ Bartlett Engineering Ltd.

MacDonald eventually became general manager of RJ Bartlett Engineering and in January 2016 assumed the position of president upon the retirement of Ralph Bartlett, PE, P.Eng.
