A 30-year old engineer from Franz Environmental Inc. was among those killed in the earthquake in Haiti on January 12. Katie Hadley, who worked from Franz’s Ottawa office, had just arrived that afternoon in Port-au-Prince and was settling into the Hotel Montana when it collapsed. Her death was confirmed by the Canadian government two weeks after the earthquake.

The following is posted on Franz Environmental’s website:  “Katie was an incredible person, and the love, compassion and support shown by all who did their best to bring her back from Haiti are a testament to that. We have lost a colleague and dear friend, but Katie’s positive spirit, her smile and zest for life will be with us forever.”

A Scholarship Fund has now been established at Carleton University in Katie Hadley’s name. The intent is to organize a meaningful and long-term legacy in her name to support female engineering students needing financial aid. This is not without challenges as $25K needs to be raised in order for the scholarship to be realized. To donate, go to  http://www.carleton.ca/giving/
