Ecomark, an environmental services firm with offices in Edmonton and Calgary has joined with Klohn Crippen Berger. Ecomark specializes in water and wastewater and environmental engineering.

GENIVAR has acquired Magnate Engineering & Associates and Magnate Communications Corp. Magnate is a telecommunications engineering firm with 70 employees based in Brampton, Ontario and Surrey, B.C. It was established in 1999 and has done major projects for utilities, transportation authorities, communications companies, municipalities and electricity companies. Clients include Rogers Wireless, Bell Mobility, TELUS Mobility, Cogeco, Shaw and the Greater Toronto Airports Authority.

President of Magnate is Elizabeth Stanmore, and vice-president is Deborah Kingston. “We found in Genivar the strategic partner to take Magnate to the next level of its development,” they said in a press announcement.

Pierre Shoiry, ing., president and CEO of Genivar, noted that the acquisition of Magnate will boost Genivar’s telecommunications division to 200 employees in Canada.

GENIVAR has also acquired a building engineering business known as Progemes consultants (Pogemes) based in Longueil, Quebec. The company provides mechanical and electrical building engineering services. Its projects include Logistik Unicorp Inc.’s plant in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, which is in the process of receiving LEED Gold certification.

Réal Thériault, president of Progemes, said “We are very happy to be part of Genivar, one of the most dynamic engineering firms in Canada.” He added that “joining a multi-disciplinary firm will allow us to broaden our client service offer. We will also be positioned to further develop our skills, particularly as regards sustainable engineering solutions, to which both firms assign great importance.”

Progemes has 20 employees and was founded 11 years ago. Its main clients include McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada, Gaz Metro, the Quebec Real Estate Corporation (SIQ), and various school boards and hospitals.
