March is National Engineering Month in Canada. The event celebrates Canadian engineering excellence and promotes engineering as a career choice to youth in schools.

The activities, held in schools and public venues across Canada, are varied and lively. For example in Alberta, one event is the Science Olympics, an interactive science competition and an interschool event sponsored by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).  Students are given a series of applications or problem-solving challenges that demonstrate the fun side of exploring science concepts targeted for Grades 1 through 12.

In Nova Scotia, the list of events includes: a “Gear Head” One Tenth Marathon, Acadia University Engineering Students’ Banquet, 6th Annual Provincial Popsicle Bridge Junior High School Challenge, Camp 7 Iron Ring Ceremony, Young Professionals social event, Egg Drop Competition, and the Lieutenant Governor Award.

A list of events in all provinces is available via the National Engineering Month website, click here.
