ASHRAE recognizes members and achievements at winter conference

Two Canadians were named Fellow this year, and a team from Montreal received a Technology Award.

ASHRAE recognized the outstanding achievements and contributions of members to furthering energy efficiency in the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry during the recent 2019 Winter Conference in Atlanta (Jan. 12-16).

ASHRAE elevated 17 members to the grade of Fellow this year, recognizing members who have attained distinction and made substantial contributions in HVAC&R such as education, research, engineering design and consultation, publications and mentoring. Two Canadians were named Fellow this year.

Arthur A. Irwin of Halifax, who sadly passed away January 7, was a Life Member of the Halifax ASHRAE Chapter and served as president 2004-05, and he received the Chapter Service Award in 2009.

And Elbert (Bert) Phillips, P.Eng., a Life Member and president of UNIES Ltd., consulting engineers in Winnipeg, was also named Fellow.

One Canadian company also received first place for an ASHRAE Technology Award recognizing outstanding achievements by ASHRAE members who have successfully applied innovative building designs.

Dominic Desjardins, Eng., Maurice Landry, Eng. and André-Benoît Allard, won first place in the existing public assembly category for Montréal Olympic Park’s Integrated Performance Contracting Project. The building is owned by Montréal Olympic Park.
