CH2M Hill studying Voisey’s Bay site

Consulting engineers CH2M Hill Canada are doing an environmental due diligence assessment of the Voisey’s Bay site in Newfoundland and Labrador. The valuable site is believed to contain one of the highest grade deposits of nickel in the world, and was acquired by Inco in 2002. The company is going to be developing the site to the tune of $710 million.
The CH2M assessment will give Inco the information it needs before finalizing the purchase of the property. It will focus on the site of the proposed $130 million demonstration plant. The company expects that the plant will start producing nickel by 2006, after which Inco will decide whether to build a full-scale commercial metal-processing facility.
CH2M Hill have asked Newfoundland Geosciences of St. John’s, Newfoundland to act as the primary subconsultant for on-site investigations.
